It is finally here!

The DigiBadge Version 2 is a streamlined, updated, and evolved version of the original DigiBadge. We've done a number of modifications to the original design, streamlining it and removing extra parts, making it physically smaller by placing the screen on our own PCB and using a micro-SD card slot, and increasing battery life by removing the voltage regulator. Additionally, a navigation switch replaces the old two-button approach, allowing for a lot more control. The Version 2 also uses the ATMega328 microcontroller, the same one as the Hacker Edition DigiBadge. To keep the design as small as possible (And because we're using most of the pins), the DigiBadge V2 does NOT break out any pins other than the FTDI connector. Our LED Matrix Pendant, however, has all of its pins broken out and accessible, along with a 5v boost regulator, making it ideal for the core of a wearable project.

DigiBadge Version 2 features:

  • Five-Direction navigation switch allows for easy control over brightness and selecting which badge or image to use.
  • Integrated SD card utilization allows for easy loading of images from a micro-SD card. Images must be 160x128 pixel 24-Bit BMP images, and only the first 20 images on a card will be loaded due to memory limits on the ATMega328P.
  • Plug-and-Play SD card: Take an SD card out and plug one in while the DigiBadge is running, and it will handle everything accordingly.
  • Three modes of operation: Badge mode, with selection of Red, Green, and Blue badges; Slideshow mode, automatically changing between loaded images from the SD card every 5 seconds; and Image mode, which displays a selectable loaded image from the SD card.
    • Slideshow and Image mode will not function without an SD card with loaded images. If only one image is found on the SD card, then Slideshow mode will be disabled.
  • Twenty-six levels of brightness lets you choose between ease of viewing and battery life.
  • FTDI connections are broken out, allowing re-programming with any FTDI cable and the Arduino IDE.
    • Select the "Arduino pro/Pro Mini" and "ATMega 328 (3.3v/MHz)" options.

DigiBadge Version 2 Add-Ons:

  • Art Cards are available! These contain specially designed and commissioned artworks from a number of artists, and we'll be adding more artists as we go along!
  • A 3D printed case is coming but is not currently available (We need to design it first!).
